Description

A quick and flavorful 30-minute ground beef and cabbage stir fry that combines tender beef with fresh vegetables in a savory, slightly spicy sauce. Perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner, this dish is easy to prepare and packed with bold Asian-inspired flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

For the sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

For the stir fry:

  • 1/2 head cabbage
  • 2 carrots (shredded or thinly sliced)
  • 3 green onions (sliced)
  • 1/2 tbsp cooking oil (grapeseed or vegetable oil)
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1.5 tbsp ginger (freshly grated)
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch pepper
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sriracha

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, brown sugar, and rice vinegar until the sugar dissolves completely. Set aside as the flavor base for the stir fry.
  2. Prep the vegetables and aromatics: Shred the cabbage into bite-sized pieces; shred or thinly slice the carrots; slice the green onions; mince the garlic; grate the fresh ginger. Having ingredients ready is essential for quick stir-frying.
  3. Cook the ground beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the cooking oil. Once shimmering, add ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 2-3 minutes until it starts to brown.
  4. Add garlic and ginger: Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  5. Cook the vegetables: Add shredded cabbage and carrots to the skillet with the beef. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes until cabbage wilts and carrots soften slightly, maintaining some texture.
  6. Add sauce and finish: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet. Stir well to coat all ingredients. Add sliced green onions and toss for about 1 minute to warm through and develop a glaze.
  7. Serve: Transfer the stir fry to plates or bowls. Garnish with sesame seeds and a drizzle of sriracha for extra flavor. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha based on your preferred spice level.
  • Shredding cabbage finely helps it cook quickly but maintain some crunch.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
  • Grapeseed oil is preferred due to its high smoke point, but vegetable oil works well too.
