Ingredients
Scale
For the sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
For the stir fry:
- 1/2 head cabbage
- 2 carrots (shredded or thinly sliced)
- 3 green onions (sliced)
- 1/2 tbsp cooking oil (grapeseed or vegetable oil)
- 3/4 lb ground beef
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1.5 tbsp ginger (freshly grated)
- Pinch salt
- Pinch pepper
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp sriracha
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, brown sugar, and rice vinegar until the sugar dissolves completely. Set aside as the flavor base for the stir fry.
- Prep the vegetables and aromatics: Shred the cabbage into bite-sized pieces; shred or thinly slice the carrots; slice the green onions; mince the garlic; grate the fresh ginger. Having ingredients ready is essential for quick stir-frying.
- Cook the ground beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the cooking oil. Once shimmering, add ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 2-3 minutes until it starts to brown.
- Add garlic and ginger: Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Cook the vegetables: Add shredded cabbage and carrots to the skillet with the beef. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes until cabbage wilts and carrots soften slightly, maintaining some texture.
- Add sauce and finish: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet. Stir well to coat all ingredients. Add sliced green onions and toss for about 1 minute to warm through and develop a glaze.
- Serve: Transfer the stir fry to plates or bowls. Garnish with sesame seeds and a drizzle of sriracha for extra flavor. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use fresh ginger for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of sriracha based on your preferred spice level.
- Shredding cabbage finely helps it cook quickly but maintain some crunch.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
- Grapeseed oil is preferred due to its high smoke point, but vegetable oil works well too.
