  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups marinara or tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or oregano + basil)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Cook noodles in boiling salted water until just tender. Drain and drizzle with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Step 2: Make the meat sauce by sautéing onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat until softened. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Prepare the ricotta mixture by combining ricotta, egg, half of the Parmesan, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Step 4: Assemble the lasagna in a baking dish starting with a thin layer of meat sauce. Add a layer of noodles, then ricotta mix, followed by meat sauce and mozzarella. Repeat the layers twice more (three layers total). Top with remaining sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Step 5: Cover the dish with foil and bake at 190°C (375°F) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest for 10 minutes before cutting.
