Ingredients
Scale
Brussels Sprouts
- 1 lb (450 g) Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) pure maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 tsp (2–3 g) sea salt
- 1/4 tsp (1–2 g) black pepper
Walnut Honey Glaze
- 1/3 cup (40 g) toasted walnuts, chopped
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) honey
- 1 tsp (5 ml) apple cider vinegar
- Optional: fresh thyme for garnish
- 8–10 wooden skewers
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Toss the halved Brussels sprouts in olive oil, maple syrup or honey, sea salt, and black pepper to evenly coat them, enhancing flavor and aiding caramelization.
- Roast Brussels Sprouts: Arrange the sprouts cut-side down in a single layer on the baking sheet. Roast for 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
- Toast Walnuts: While the sprouts roast, toast the walnuts in a dry pan over medium heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently to avoid burning and to bring out their nutty aroma.
- Make Walnut Honey Glaze: In a small saucepan, gently warm the honey and apple cider vinegar until it just starts to bubble. Stir in the toasted walnuts and remove from heat, allowing the glaze to meld flavors.
- Assemble Skewers: Once the Brussels sprouts are roasted and slightly cooled, thread 4 to 5 sprouts onto each wooden skewer, creating festive portions perfect for serving.
- Glaze and Garnish: Drizzle the walnut honey glaze generously over the skewers, then garnish with fresh thyme for an aromatic and colorful finish.
- Serve Warm: Arrange the skewers on a holiday platter and serve warm to enjoy the full depth of flavors and textures.
Notes
- Use maple syrup as a vegan alternative to honey.
- Ensure Brussels sprouts are trimmed and halved evenly for consistent roasting.
- Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes before assembling to prevent burning during reheating if needed.
- For extra crunch, use walnuts that are lightly salted.
- This dish pairs well with roasted meats or can be served as a vegetarian appetizer.
