Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter
- 1 large loaf of Italian bread
- 3 tablespoons garlic butter
Filling
- 450g thinly sliced beef
- 1 cup sliced mixed-color bell peppers
- 1 cup sliced onions
- 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) to prepare for baking the stuffed bread.
- Prepare Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the garlic butter then sauté the onions and bell peppers until they are softened, enhancing their natural sweetness and flavor.
- Cook Beef: Add the thinly sliced beef into the skillet with the sautéed vegetables, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the beef is fully browned and flavorful.
- Prepare Bread: Slice the Italian bread loaf lengthwise, then carefully scoop out some of the soft interior to create enough space for the filling without breaking the crust.
- Assemble: Fill the hollowed-out bread with the cooked beef, onions, and peppers mixture, then top generously with shredded provolone cheese to ensure a gooey, cheesy finish.
- Bake: Place the filled bread onto a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden on top.
- Cool and Garnish: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly for easier slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley to add a pop of color and fresh flavor before serving warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes to the beef mixture before baking.
- Use provolone cheese for the authentic cheesesteak flavor but mozzarella or a sharp cheddar can be good substitutes.
- Leftover garlic bread loaf can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
- Be careful not to overstuff the bread to avoid spillage during baking.
