Description

This Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse is a rich and creamy dessert that combines the smooth texture of blended cottage cheese with the deep, indulgent flavor of dark chocolate. Enhanced with optional cocoa powder and sweetener, this mousse offers a healthier twist on a classic treat, all without the need for baking. Perfect for an easy-to-make, protein-packed dessert that’s light yet satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

Primary Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups (500 g) Cottage cheese
  • 3.5 oz (100 g) Dark chocolate, high-quality (adjust amount as needed)

Optional Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons (16 g) Cocoa powder (optional – adjust amount as desired)
  • 2 tablespoons Sweetener (optional but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Cottage Cheese: In a food processor or blender, blend the cottage cheese until it becomes smooth and creamy. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally to eliminate any lumps and achieve an even texture.
  2. Add Cocoa Powder: To the blended cottage cheese, add the optional cocoa powder if using. Blend again until the mixture is uniformly smooth and the cocoa is fully incorporated.
  3. Melt the Chocolate: Break the dark chocolate into small pieces to facilitate melting. Use a double boiler setup by placing a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water or microwave the chocolate in 20-second bursts, stirring each time until completely melted and silky.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Transfer the blended cottage cheese mixture into a bowl and add the melted chocolate. Mix thoroughly until you have a smooth, homogeneous batter.
  5. Pour into Serving Cups: Transfer the mousse batter into a piping bag for neatness. Carefully dispense the mousse into serving cups or glasses, ensuring an attractive presentation.
  6. Chill and Set: Refrigerate the mousse for at least 3 hours, allowing it to firm up and the flavors to meld. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with fresh berries for added freshness and color.

Notes

  • Using sweetener is optional but helps balance the bitterness of the dark chocolate, especially if you prefer your mousse sweeter.
  • The cocoa powder enhances the chocolate flavor but can be omitted if you prefer a milder taste.
  • For best texture, use full-fat cottage cheese and high-quality dark chocolate.
  • This mousse is best served chilled and consumed within 2 days for optimal freshness.
  • If the mousse is too thick after chilling, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for easier spooning or piping.
