Description

This Crockpot Turkey Breast recipe delivers a tender, juicy turkey breast cooked low and slow in a crockpot, infused with a flavorful butter and herb rub. Accompanied by a savory homemade gravy made from the cooking juices, it’s a perfect, hassle-free meal ideal for family dinners or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Turkey Breast

  • 33.5 lb boneless turkey breast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt (I use Lawry’s)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Gravy

  • 1 cup low sodium chicken, turkey or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 pinch black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Turkey Breast: Place the completely thawed boneless turkey breast in a 2.5-4 quart crockpot. If using a turkey breast roast with netting, leave the netting on for cooking.
  2. Make Herb Butter Rub: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, seasoning salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture thoroughly over both sides of the turkey breast, ensuring coverage under and on top of the skin if present.
  3. Cook the Turkey: Cover the crockpot and cook the turkey on low heat for 5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) to ensure it is fully cooked and safe to eat.
  4. Rest the Turkey: Remove the turkey breast from the crockpot and place it on a cutting board to rest for 10-15 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  5. Prepare the Gravy Juice: Strain the cooking juices from the crockpot through a fine mesh sieve into a medium saucepan, removing any solids for a smooth gravy.
  6. Mix Broth and Cornstarch: In a small bowl, whisk together the low sodium broth and cornstarch until fully blended.
  7. Cook the Gravy: Add the broth and cornstarch mixture into the strained turkey juices in the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking frequently until the gravy thickens. Taste and season with dried parsley, thyme, and a pinch of black pepper, adjusting seasoning as desired.
  8. Serve: Thinly slice the rested turkey breast. Place slices back into the crockpot set to warm if serving later, or serve immediately topped with the freshly made gravy.

Notes

  • Ensure turkey breast is completely thawed before cooking for even cooking.
  • Use a meat thermometer to confirm the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
  • The gravy can be adjusted for thickness by varying the amount of cornstarch dissolved in broth.
  • If you prefer a different seasoning, feel free to customize the herb butter rub to your taste.
  • Resting the turkey is essential to keep the meat juicy and tender.
  • This recipe works well for holidays but is simple enough for a comforting weeknight dinner.
