  • Author: Rafael
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish featuring tender shredded chicken mixed with creamy sour cream and cheddar, topped with a buttery, flavorful stuffing crust. Perfect for family dinners, this casserole offers a deliciously cheesy, savory meal baked to a golden brown perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken (about 3 large breasts)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Stuffing Topping

  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (e.g., Stove Top)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent the casserole from sticking during baking.
  2. Mix Chicken Filling: In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated. Spread this mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare Stuffing Topping: In a separate bowl, mix the stuffing mix with the melted butter and chicken broth. Let this mixture sit for 2 to 3 minutes so the stuffing can absorb the liquids properly and become moist.
  4. Assemble and Bake: Evenly layer the moistened stuffing over the chicken mixture in the baking dish. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the stuffing on top turns golden brown and the edges of the casserole are bubbling hot.
  5. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of dried parsley or thyme to the chicken mixture.
  • If you prefer a crunchier topping, bake uncovered to maintain crispiness.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings using a bigger baking dish.
