Instructions
- Prepare the baking dish: Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with baking spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the cake.
- Add eggnog base: Pour 1 cup of eggnog evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create a flavorful moist layer.
- Add cake mix layer: Pour the entire box of white cake mix evenly over the cup of eggnog, but do not stir or mix.
- Top with remaining eggnog: Pour the remaining 2 cups of eggnog over the cake mix layer, letting it soak in naturally.
- Add butter pats: Evenly distribute the 1 stick of butter, cut into quarter-inch pats, across the top of the cake mix and eggnog layers.
- Sprinkle nutmeg: Lightly sprinkle nutmeg over the top of the butter to add a warm, spicy aroma and flavor.
- Bake the cake: Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 50-60 minutes until the cake is set and the top is golden brown.
Notes
- Best served warm—not too hot and not cold—for optimal flavor and texture.
- If dry cake mix patches appear after baking, spritz a little water on them or try to distribute some melted butter over those areas with a spoon.
