  • Author: Rafael
  • Total Time: 5 hours 35 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 24 truffles 1x

Description

These Eggnog Truffles are a festive and decadent treat perfect for the holiday season. Creamy white chocolate and cream cheese blend with rich eggnog and warm spices, then coated in smooth dark chocolate. Optional bourbon or rum adds a boozy twist, while crushed gingersnap cookies or a dusting of nutmeg provide a delightful topping. Easy to make and perfect for gift-giving or holiday parties.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling

  • 200 grams (7 oz) white chocolate, chopped
  • 113 grams (4 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) full-fat eggnog
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon or dark rum (optional)

For the Coating

  • 200 grams (7 oz) dark chocolate, chopped
  • 60 grams (2 oz) white chocolate, chopped (for drizzling, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons crushed gingersnap cookies or extra nutmeg (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the White Chocolate: Gently melt the white chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring frequently until smooth. Let it cool slightly to maintain smoothness without becoming too hot.
  2. Combine with Cream Cheese: In a mixing bowl, stir the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the slightly cooled white chocolate and mix until fully incorporated and silky.
  3. Add Eggnog and Flavorings: Slowly pour in the eggnog while mixing continuously to prevent separation. Stir in vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. If desired, add bourbon or dark rum. The mixture should be thick and spoonable, like frosting.
  4. Chill the Filling: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until firm enough to scoop.
  5. Shape into Balls: Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to portion the filling into 1-inch balls. Roll gently between your hands to create smooth shapes. Place on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for another 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. Melt the Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate using the same method as the white chocolate and allow it to cool slightly so it coats smoothly without melting the filling inside the truffles.
  7. Dip the Truffles: Dip each chilled truffle into the melted dark chocolate using a fork or dipping tool, letting excess chocolate drip off. Place back on the parchment-lined tray.
  8. Add Toppings: If desired, drizzle with melted white chocolate and sprinkle with crushed gingersnap cookies or a pinch of nutmeg before the coating sets.
  9. Set and Store: Let the truffles set completely at room temperature or refrigerate until firm. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Serve cold for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use full-fat eggnog for the richest flavor and texture.
  • Chilling the filling thoroughly is essential for shaping and coating the truffles properly.
  • Optional bourbon or dark rum enhances the traditional holiday flavor but can be omitted for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Ensure the melted chocolate is cooled slightly before dipping to avoid melting the truffle centers.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them fresh up to one week.
  • White chocolate drizzle and gingersnap toppings add decorative flair and complementary flavors but are optional.
