  • Author: Rafael
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 24-36 cake pops 1x

Description

These festive Grinch Cake Pops combine the rich flavor of red velvet cake with vibrant green candy coating to create a fun and delicious holiday treat. Perfect for parties or gifting, these cake pops are decorated with red candy hearts to add a cheerful touch resembling the Grinch theme.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box Red Velvet Cake Mix (plus ingredients called for on box to make the cake)
  • 3 Tbsp Cream Cheese Frosting (pre-made)

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 oz Vibrant Green Candy Melts
  • 1 teaspoon Vegetable Shortening
  • 36 Red Candy Hearts or Red Candy Sprinkles
  • 2436 Cake Pop Sticks or Lollipop Sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Follow the instructions on the red velvet cake mix box to bake the cake properly. Once baked, allow it to cool completely at room temperature before proceeding.
  2. Crumble the Cake: Remove the cake from the pan and discard the brown outer crust layer. Crumble the soft interior of the cake into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Mix with Frosting: Add the cream cheese frosting to the crumbled cake and stir thoroughly until the mixture is uniform and holds together well.
  4. Form Cake Balls: Using your hands or a cookie scoop, shape the mixture into approximately 24 to 36 evenly sized cake balls and place them on a lined cookie sheet.
  5. Melt the Candy Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the green candy melts and vegetable shortening. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  6. Insert Sticks: Dip each cake pop stick into the melted green candy coating and insert it about halfway into each cake ball. Place the assembled cake pops in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to firm up.
  7. Coat Cake Pops: Dip each chilled cake pop into the melted candy melts, ensuring they are fully covered. Allow any excess coating to drip back into the bowl for a neat finish.
  8. Set Cake Pops: Insert the sticks of the coated cake pops into a block of styrofoam to let the candy coating harden at room temperature.
  9. Prepare Drizzle: Pour remaining melted candy coating into a decorating bag and snip off the tip at a 45-degree angle for controlled drizzle.
  10. Decorate: Drizzle the remaining green candy melt over the top of each cake pop, then immediately add a red candy heart or sprinkles to each before the candy hardens.
  11. Serve: Allow all cake pops to fully dry before serving or gifting. Enjoy your colorful and festive Grinch Cake Pops!

Notes

  • Removing the cake crust is essential to ensure smooth, evenly coated cake pops.
  • Chilling the cake pops before coating prevents them from falling apart during dipping.
  • Vegetable shortening helps thin the candy melts, making them easier to dip and coat.
  • If candy melts thicken during use, reheat them gently in the microwave in short intervals.
  • Use a cookie scoop for consistent cake ball sizes to ensure even coating and baking times.
