Ingredients
Scale
Casserole
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
- 2 cans refrigerated orange rolls, cut into quarters
- 4 eggs
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
Icing
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 3–4 tablespoons orange juice
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) so it’s ready when you finish preparing the casserole.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish and swirl it around to coat the bottom evenly; this adds richness and prevents sticking.
- Arrange Rolls: Cut the refrigerated orange rolls into quarters and arrange them evenly in the butter-coated baking dish.
- Mix Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, light brown sugar, vanilla extract, and the zest and juice of one orange until fully combined and smooth.
- Combine and Chill: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the orange roll pieces. If preparing ahead, cover the dish with foil and refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to meld and rolls to soak up the custard.
- Bake: When ready, uncover the dish and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the rolls are cooked through but still soft and custardy in the center.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes to set before icing.
- Prepare Icing: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, orange zest, and 3 tablespoons of orange juice. Add melted butter and mix well. Adjust consistency by adding more orange juice for thinner icing or more powdered sugar for thicker icing as desired.
- Serve: Drizzle the orange icing over the warm casserole, slice, and serve immediately. Enjoy the sweet and tangy flavors with every bite!
Notes
- For convenience, you can use the icing provided in the orange roll package instead of making your own orange glaze.
- Cover and refrigerate the casserole if preparing the night before to save time on the day of serving.
- If you prefer an extra golden top, you can sprinkle a little extra brown sugar on top before baking.
