  • Author: Rafael
  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Casserole is a delicious and comforting twist on the classic sandwich, combining ground beef, sautéed bell peppers and onions, provolone cheese, and a creamy egg mixture baked to perfection. It’s an easy, hearty meal perfect for a family dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 ½ lb. Ground beef
  • 2 Bell peppers, chopped
  • ½ Onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp. Minced garlic

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp. Seasoned salt
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Dairy

  • 8 Slices provolone cheese
  • 4 Large eggs
  • ¼ C. Heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Brown the meat: In a skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop, begin to brown the ground beef until partially cooked.
  3. Add vegetables: Add the chopped onions and bell peppers to the skillet with the beef. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and the vegetables start to soften.
  4. Season: Stir in the seasoned salt and minced garlic, sautéing for an additional 30 seconds to release flavors, then drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish well. Layer the cooked beef and vegetable mixture evenly on the bottom of the dish, then top with the slices of provolone cheese.
  6. Prepare egg mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy whipping cream, Worcestershire sauce, and eggs.
  7. Pour and bake: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the meat and cheese layers in the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the casserole is cooked through and set.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain excess grease to avoid a soggy casserole.
  • You can substitute bell peppers with other vegetables like mushrooms or jalapeños for added flavor.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving to help it set better.
  • For a lighter version, you can use reduced-fat cheese and milk instead of heavy cream.
