  • Author: Rafael
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This comforting Turkey Broccoli Casserole combines tender cooked turkey with nutritious broccoli and mushrooms, all baked in a creamy cheese sauce. It’s an easy one-dish meal, perfect for using leftover turkey and creating a warm, hearty dinner the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 cups frozen broccoli florets
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced parsley, plus extra for garnish

Protein

  • 3 cups shredded cooked turkey (about 1 pound)

Dairy & Oils

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 ½ cups shredded cheese (use your favorite cheese)
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream

Seasonings

  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat the oven to 395 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Slice mushrooms: Carefully slice the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking and distribution throughout the casserole.
  3. Cook vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Sauté the sliced mushrooms, frozen broccoli florets, and minced garlic together for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender and aromatic.
  4. Combine turkey and cream sauce: Stir in the shredded cooked turkey, sea salt, ground black pepper, and minced parsley into the skillet. Then add 1 cup of shredded cheese along with the heavy cream. Stir everything together and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Assemble and bake: Transfer the turkey and vegetable mixture into the prepared baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the remaining 1 ½ cups of shredded cheese over the top for a cheesy crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese has fully melted and turned golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven, garnish with additional minced parsley for a fresh touch, then serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh broccoli if preferred; just steam it lightly before adding to the skillet.
  • Feel free to use any shredded cheese you like—cheddar, mozzarella, or a sharp cheese all work well.
  • This recipe works great with leftover turkey or roasted chicken.
  • For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
