Ingredients
Scale
Salmon
- 4 salmon fillets (about 1/2 pound or 250 grams each), skin off or on
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (mild, sweet or smoky)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Hot Honey Sauce
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 4 garlic cloves, grated or finely minced
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 – 1 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce (not dark)
Garnish and Serving
- Fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Season the Salmon: Use paper towels to thoroughly pat the salmon fillets dry. Generously season all sides with salt, pepper, and paprika to enhance the flavor.
- Sear the Salmon: Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the salmon fillets skin side up and cook for 3 minutes until a golden crust forms. Carefully flip and cook for an additional 1 minute on the other side.
- Baste with Butter: Move the salmon to one side of the pan. Add unsalted butter to the empty area, tilt the pan to melt it, and spoon the butter over the salmon for 1-2 minutes until the underside is golden and the salmon is nearly cooked through.
- Infuse Garlic, Ginger, and Chili: Reduce heat to low-medium. Add grated garlic, freshly grated ginger, and chili flakes to the pan. Cook for 10-20 seconds, stirring gently to release flavors without browning.
- Make the Hot Honey Sauce: Add honey, lime juice, and soy sauce to the pan. Stir continuously and let the sauce gently simmer for 4-5 minutes until it thickens to a thin caramel-like consistency. Adjust seasonings to taste.
- Finish the Dish: Return the salmon to the pan and spoon the hot honey sauce over the fillets to baste them well. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro.
- Serve: Plate the salmon, add lime wedges on the side, and enjoy your flavorful hot honey salmon!
Notes
- Patting the salmon dry before seasoning helps in achieving a nice crust when searing.
- Adjust chili flakes according to your preferred heat level.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best tangy flavor in the sauce.
- If you prefer skin-on salmon, sear skin side down first for a crisp texture.
- The sauce should be simmered gently to avoid burning the honey.
- Fresh cilantro adds a bright herbal note as a garnish.
- Serve with steamed rice or fresh greens for a complete meal.
